Mid Edo period Dragon Tsuba by Kunishige

A stunning Mid Edo period Copper Tsuba signed “Hirado-jū Kunishige”.

Description

Excellent work by the Kunishige line of of Hizen province, beautifully chiseled Mei with Kao and a well executed dragon chiseled on both sides. The dragon wraps on both Ura and Omote. It is nice and heavy made from copper, has developed a very nice and even patina, a few scratches are visible. The patina does appear a little darker than in the images taken, one picture in the slideshow was taken with the setting sun. Come with a good quality box. Tsuba measures 7.6cm x 7.1cm with a thickness of 0.55cm and a total weight of 154 grams.
